The CYFD Receiving Center's relaxation room offers kids a quiet place to rest and a crib for toddlers and infants.
The new CYFD PullTogether Receiving Center includes a game room, play area, meditation room, kitchen, changing and storage area, and relaxation room for kids. This will be the first stop for children in Bernalillo County who are placed in the care of the Children, Youth and Families Department.
Located in Albuquerque to support CYFD operations in Bernalillo County, the Receiving Center transforms former offices into a cozy place for children to play, rest, and decompress.
The meditation room offers children an area to be alone, read, or even try a few yoga poses like the fox art on the wall.
Before the Receiving Center opened in Summer 2017, children had to wait in offices - even in the middle of the night - as social workers made calls to relatives and foster families to find proper placement for kids.
We were very excited about the vision put forth by CYFD and were eager to help make the Receiving Center a reality. Our Interior Design practice area took the lead in designing a kid-friendly environment with calming colors, comfortable furniture, toys and crafts, books, and playful decorations.
The game room is designed for kids of all ages, and offers comfy bean bags so kids can sit back to watch TV or play video games.
The open play area includes toys for younger children and materials for arts and crafts.
In addition to books, doll houses, a sound machine, video games, toys, and crafts, children will have access to a stocked kitchen with fresh food donated by the local La Montanita Co-op and sometimes even pizzas donated by Dion's Pizza. Each child will also receive a backpack containing a blanket and other items donated by individuals in the community.
We want to thank our talented interior designers and our superbly generous employees who contributed individually in time and donations.
Special shout-out to our many community partners who showed tremendous support and generosity, including:
The new Receiving Center will ease the process for children who enter CYFD custody. We are excited to see our state and community come together to make environments like this possible!
