Belen Eagles Natatorium

The Belen Eagles Natatorium is a joint-use project shared between Belen High School and the surrounding community. The primary goal of the project Steering Committee was to provide a multifunction pool complex centered around competitive swimming while supplementing the community's existing recreational opportunities.

A site was chosen next to Belen High School's existing outdoor recreation pool in the heart of the campus, providing an ideal setting for a new natatorium primarily designed for competitive swimming. The committee desired to host state and regional swim meets, and they wanted the Belen Eagles Natatorium to be known as a fast pool. The DPS design team created an entirely deep water, 25-yard by 25-meter, 8-lane competitive pool with a perimeter gutter configuration to promote fast swimming times for short and long-course competitive swimming. Deck areas provide seating for 300 spectators with break out spaces for teams during competitive events.

An additional goal was to expand existing programs including club team swimming, swim lessons, and long-course swimming, and to add uses including water polo, scuba, kayaking, and diving. A separate dive tank promotes one meter diving and incorporates a shallow end that serves as a warm water pool used for therapy, aerobics, and swim lessons. An outdoor connection unites the new natatorium to the existing outdoor recreation pool used by the community during summer months.
