Multifamily Communities

More than a place to live

Artisan @ Sawmill Village

The mix of multi-family housing with small businesses distinguishes the Artisan as a community rather than purely affordable housing. Upper floors consist of 62 dwelling units while shell spaces on the ground floor accommodate 15 small businesses. To promote interaction between residents and businesses, overhead doors and an overhang cover create welcoming entrances.

The Artisan at Sawmill Village is the first phase of new construction on a site that was formerly a lumber products manufacturing facility. To attract tenants and businesses back to the district, exterior finishes of corrugated metal and steel stair towers blend the industrial character of the neighborhood with a contemporary design. Part of the existing sawdust hopper from the lumber company is repurposed as an iconic tower with an outdoor performance space below. Salvaged steel columns are reused as site lighting and for signage display during special events. Rainwater harvesting for landscape irrigation and recycled materials contribute to the structure's sustainability and NMFMA Green Program certification.
