Weeks Hall Renovation

This project transformed an abandoned 1950s women’s dormitory into flexible space for students, academics, and administrators. Old dormitories, despite their challenges, can be repurposed to meet modern needs. Weeks Hall provides a model for how historic or outdated residence halls can be adapted into open, collaborative environments.

The design reimagines the floor plan and does away with double-loaded corridors. Offices are located on one side only, increasing occupancy and expanding access to daylight and views. Mechanical rooms, restrooms, and coffee bars are consolidated at the center of each wing. Chilled beams eliminate ductwork and maximize ceiling height.

Old dormitories, despite their challenges, can be repurposed to meet modern needs.

DPS worked with Texas Tech University to achieve historic tax credits for the building’s exterior restoration and window replacement. Using thermal mapping that revealed the presence of moisture, our team was able to make informed recommendations on where and how to add modern insulation layers.

Once static and neglected, Weeks Hall is now a vibrant atmosphere for deeper learning and connection.
