Cementing a partnership in education

SFCC Higher Education Center

Partnering with the University of New Mexico, New Mexico Highlands University, and the Institute of American Indian Arts, the Santa Fe Community College Higher Education Center will provide four-year and graduate level degree programs to residents of Santa Fe. This new building located near the City's employment center will extend the existing Center's services beyond the campus location to more efficiently serve students.

The two-story building is composed of flexible classroom space, incorporates the latest technology, and offers individual and group study areas as well as tutoring space. The faculty offices have been strategically placed to allow for both informal and formal meetings between students and faculty. Innovative combinations of furniture support students both inside and outside the classrooms. Furniture placement is coordinated with base building systems locations, including system furniture, conference tables, and self-serve computer kiosks. The majority of the furniture is GREENGUARD certified.

Planned as a LEED Gold project, the building is sited to maximize solar orientation for daylighting and energy generation using canopy mounted photovoltaic panels. The building's architectural expression is borrowed from the stainless steel mesh sun control screens on the building's west, east, and south sides.
