Big campus, cozy classrooms

Pinnacle Intermediate School

As Amarillo sees steady population growth, Canyon Independent School District recognized the need for an intermediate school to ease overcrowding and accommodate future students.

The school’s design is tailored to 5th and 6th grade students. At this stage, students need more freedom than elementary school, but more individualized attention than high school. Classrooms are grouped into small learning communities, making students feel like they attend a smaller school. For heightened safety, the school features secure entry and a tornado shelter.

Befitting of its name, Pinnacle sits majestically atop a slight ridge. The school backs up to an existing elementary school campus. The two campuses share a staff parking lot and bus drop-off lane.

Dekker assisted the district with preliminary cost estimates to support their bond program, helping make the schools possible. Our team also helped with site selection and worked with the developer of an on-site subdivision to design a layout to suit all parties. The subdivision is the first in Amarillo to allow children of all grade levels to walk to and from school.
