Balloons, Health, Wellness and Interactive Yoga.
A collaboration between Presbyterian Healthcare Services, StoryLab, and Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, the interactive wall was installed during the 2017 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta to engage visitors and bring attention to the importance of incorporating health and wellness in our daily activities.
"Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." - The World Health Organization
This interactive experience featured projected yoga poses designed to motivate visitors to get active. Participants were challenged to match each pose while custom programmed sensors tracked their motion and scored people based on how well they achieved each pose. With each movement, a series of colored dots tracked and followed people's poses, creating a colorful digital art piece of motion.
Physical activity - especially activity that doesn't require special effort or investment like going to the gym - is an important component of our overall health. Movement, however, has been largely designed out of our daily lives with the advent of car-dependent cities, extended periods of sitting, and modern conveniences that have inadvertently contributed to inactivity.
Installations like the interactive yoga display bring an awareness to our lifestyles and embed movement back into our built environment.
