Two D/P/S Projects Win AIA Albuquerque Citation Awards

December 3, 2021

The AIA Albuquerque Architectural Design Awards encourages and recognizes distinguished architectural achievements by New Mexico architects and serves to increase public awareness of the outstanding services provided by architects as well as to emphasize the importance of the architect's role in shaping the quality of the built environment through design excellence. D/P/S is proud to have contributed to two award-winning projects.

Citation Award | Remodel + Adaptive Reuse | BernCo @ Alvarado Square

Together with its design and construction partners, Bernalillo County accomplished one of the most significant property transformations in our state’s history. This massive renovation of a vacant, 1970’s 8-story tower revitalized South Downtown and will advance services provided to over 670,000 New Mexicans.

By consolidating nearly all departments and services, the County brings constituents and over 800 employees to the Downtown community. The resulting design transforms the tower with robust technology, updated systems, and a welcoming, modern environment that authentically represents the County it serves while celebrating the original building’s unique features.

A grounding black and bright white interior palette incorporates existing dark bronze metal and provides a gallery-like backdrop for the County’s extensive art collection. Artist photography used in wayfinding and an elevator screen and an in-progress commissioned mural further add identity.

The Commissioner Chambers addition helps frame a new urban streetscape along Silver Avenue and defines a new welcoming entrance to the building.
