The second phase of student housing for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas provides 500 beds in three separate buildings ranging in height from three to five stories. Adjacent to the residence halls is an administration building that provides a common lounge, laundry and maintenance facilities, offices and conference areas. The project also includes a new dining area and kitchen. D/P/S conducted a three-day design charrette programming session which involved the design team and a housing committee comprised of UNLV student, administration, faculty, and staff members. Working together, the design team and the committee produced a wide variety of conceptual drawings, evaluated these solutions, and came to a decision based on consensus. The result was a functional and economical student housing solution for UNLV. The project was constructed under budget and in time for fall of 1990 student move in.
