St. Paul the Apostle
St. Paul the Apostle | St. Francis of Assisi | St. Albert the Great | St. Columban | Sisters of St. Joseph of Orange
This 600-seat church is the largest in the Juneau Diocese. The overall organization places the altar central to the assembly and music ministry.
The top of the altar displays five crosses to remind us of the wounds of Christ at his crucifixion. The altar and the furniture were designed to reflect the Native American culture, with edges rounded and wood face hand azded. The sides of altar are enclosed to express the nature of both an altar table and an altar of sacrifice. The altar sides contain round vertical bars representing rain and sunshine with the horizontal red cedar rails shaped into the profiles of mountains that surround Juneau.
Wood for Liturgical Furniture is Sitka Spruce and Western Red Cedar, native woods of Alaska. Granite for baptismal font, ambry, cross, and tabernacle is from nearby mountains.
Robert Habiger served as the liturgical design consultant throughout the project and designed all of the liturgical furniture.
Location: Juneau, Alaska
