Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Adorers Chapel | Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe | Santa Maria de la Vid Church | Calvary of Albuquerque | Green Valley Presbyterian Church | St. Francis Episcopal Church | Grace Lutheran Church | St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church

The Cathedral rises out of the western Kansas landscape, establishing a landmark visible from miles away. The program required combining two existing parishes into a new Cathedral parish, designing a worship space that exemplified liturgical principles of Vatican II and building a structure that conveyed a dignified, authentic and meaningful testament to a people of faith. Significant form-givers for the Cathedral are materials that express warmth, an architectural palette that reflects a regional building vernacular, the use of daylight as a major interior element, the use of sacred geometric proportions and the application of a central plan to honor Vatican II renewed liturgy. This new Cathedral speaks of noble simplicity, timelessness and God consciousness.
